The gap in our training

The couple your training didn’t prepare you for

One spouse wants out. The other is desperate to save the marriage. Traditional couples work assumes both people are motivated to do the work. Crisis couples aren’t, and too many get sent away to deal with it on their own.

I know, because it happened to me. When my own marriage hit a crisis in 1992, our marriage therapist had no idea what to do with a couple that wasn’t highly motivated. He sent us away. We made a mess, ended up prematurely divorced, and our two small children paid the price.

When I went to graduate school for marriage and family therapy, nobody taught this either. So I went to the research, built the model, and have spent nearly 30 years helping couples at the breaking point. That model is marriage crisis management.

In three hours

What you’ll learn

  • What marriage crisis management is, and how it goes further than couples therapy or discernment counseling
  • How to stabilize a couple in crisis in the first sessions
  • How to guide the decision: reconcile, separate with structure, or divorce amicably
  • How to help couples avoid regrettable mistakes and do right by their children
  • What the full training involves, and how to join the first class of certified marriage crisis managers

This is a working session, kept small so you can ask questions. Bring your curiosity and a case or two you wish had gone differently.

Your trainer

Dr. Becky Whetstone, PhD

America’s Marriage Crisis Manager®. Licensed marriage and family therapist in Arkansas and Texas, with nearly 30 years of specialization in marriage and family work. Former newspaper columnist for the San Antonio Express-News. Today Becky works with couples around the world through crisis, managed separation, and amicable divorce coaching.

Couples look for this kind of help and too often can’t find it. Becky can’t serve them all herself, so she is training the first class: at least 10 therapists, fully trained, who will become leaders in this field.
