Counseling intern Candice Hoke will begin seeing clients in our office August 18, so make your appointment now!

I have been wanting to add low-cost, high quality counseling services for a long time, and on August 18th we will do just that.

I am more than pleased to introduce Candice Hoke, MA, who many know as my extremely helpful and friendly personal office assistant, but who is also a University of Arkansas at Little Rock counseling counseling student and intern who will now also be counseling children, adults, couples and families. I will be staffing and advising her with her cases, as will her official supervisor, so rest assured she is fully prepared to be in the counseling chair helping you anyone with their counseling needs.

Now, more about Candice … she was born and raised in Jonesboro, Arkansas, where most of her family still resides. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Central Arkansas, and a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University Maryland in Baltimore, Maryland in 2012, and provided research support as an intern at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She is currently enrolled in graduate courses for Marriage and Family Therapy, and Rehabilitation Counseling at the University of Arkansas—Little Rock, to complete a second MA.

Candice has gained valuable clinical experience through inpatient work at Vista Health—Fayetteville, the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt (Maryland), and at Rivendell Behavioral Health Services in Benton, Arkansas. In addition to her studies and her work with Dr. Whetstone, Candice works as an admissions counselor at Rivendell. Candice has a wide range of interests and hopes to earn a doctorate in psychology, counseling, or public health. She is interested in learning about how individuals and families cope with stress, trauma, and chronic illnesses, and how to best support those who struggle with such issues. Other areas of interest include promoting effective and healthy communication between partners and parents and children, and helping others overcome trauma and loss.

During her free time, Candice enjoys being with her husband, whom she married in March 2014. She enjoys battling weeds and bugs in her garden, playing with her dog and cat, and exploring the area with friends and family. As a lifetime wanderer, Candice has developed a love of maps and dreams of driving her car around the American West for a summer.

As Dr. Whetstone’s intern, Candice is looking forward to working with individual adults, children, couples, and families.

Appointments with Candice are $60 per hour, and the initial 90-minute intake appointment is $75. Call (501)590-9200 to make your appointment, or email becky@doctorbecky.com.
